Some CDs have "CD-Text" stored in the lead-in area. This is where that data comes from. But I have a feeling you're more interested in how to put it there?

I know Nero has an option to add CD-Text for Album Title and Artist, and I would guess that the Track Titles come from whatever the track names look like in the compilation window. I would assume most burning software would have similar functionality. Check the documentation.

Alternatively, WMP might just be pulling the data from an online database.

Thanks for the reply - after I posted, I followed a link to this:

How to Get Your CD Information To Show Up In Windows Media Player | eHow.com

Sounds pretty simple, if it's accurate.

That'll work for WMP, sure, as well as musicmatch and a number of online music retailers, but CD-Text is relatively easy to include, and would work with winamp, mediamonkey, even pioneer CD Players. What's the harm in doing both? While you're at it, you might as well submit the CD to freedb and CDDB too.
