Default WDM issue

I managed to solve all midi problems before. Staying up until 4am for 3 days straight and going to work at 6am pays off I guess?!

Anyway, now I'm having more issues...everything I play in WDM cracks, pops and has a distortion static noise on it.

If I put my driver mode to ASIO, the sound quality seems alot worse, and I cannot bounce tracks without the bounced track sounding like a fork scraping a plate.

Any help?

If you can provide more info like type of sound card, computer info, midi interface, operating system, version of Sonar it will be a lot easier to help you. You start with midi problems, then wind up with bouncing which is done with audio. What are you specifically doing to create the problem?

If you create a signature that has that info, you won't need to provide that with each posting.

Thanks Michael.

I have a Quad core custom built PC with 4gigs of ram and 1 terabyte of hardrive space on windows xp pro.

Sound: I use an audio interface with a PCI which is E-mu 1616m. I use sonar 8 producer edition. I've been creating beats on ASIO instead of WDM since the cracks and distortion will not stop.. I bounced a midi track out to audio last night. I have to make sure no track or a midi blob is high lighted. Then I can designate the midi to bounce to an audio track.

However, the audio track that I bounced from Midi track, will not play without the midi file still within the mix. I can edit, input fx, and pan the track which is nice since I can't do that on my midi due to the fx being mostly for audio...

I realize once you freeze the track and convert it to audio, fx and panning has no effect.

Are you getting your sound from a hardware, or software synth?

I use my korg triton to play the soft synth sounds. I was never able to use the triton bank sounds to play in sonar. i have it connected through midi.

I found these articles that may help you get started so you can use the banks on the Triton. Also I would suggest that you do the tutorials regarding the usage of software synths. Also, check that your midi cables are correct..ins go to outs, outs go to ins, etc... I use a korg x5 as a controller and hardware synth. Check out your manual for the keyboard, there is a specific mode that has to be used so the keyboard delivers midi signal to the midi banks on the Triton. On my kork it's the multi mode. Might be something different for you.

I'll try that as well Michael, thanks so much!

One question, after I bounce my tracks to audio from midi and edit the tracks, would it have any negative impact on mixing it down?

If you are running Sonar and soft synths and all from 1 harddrive this could also be a problem.......for best results you should install a second hardrine and only use it for recording and playing back.......softsynths and sonar access the hardrive alot. Sonar will be running and your trying to write and load memory from it too. 1 hard drive for your Os and your daw and al plugins and vsti's.....the other for audio only...... I read many articles about this and found it to be very helpful during record/playback....
