Default vst plugins for home studio 2004

How do I make other vst plugins usable for Home Studio 2004. I can't seem to figure out how to get them into the correct folder. They show up in the pull down menu, but when I click on them it says they are not there. Also, how can I record from my drum machine and get the drums on individual tracks so I can add effects or change volumes independently.

I would think only if your drum machine has multipal outputs. Try ez drummer or superior drummer. Ez drummer will give you 2, 8, and 16 channels. I think superior drummer will go up to 32 tracks on drums. All the drum machines I ever had would only give me stereo 2 track.........

Depending on the drum machine you have, you should be able to record each drum track on it's own separate track to sonar using midi..one method I use is..
If you have a sound card with midi in/out, hook up to your drum machine via midi cables. Set the drum machine to be the slave and sonar the master and do the same with sonar. Run an audio out from mono line out of your drum machine to a audio line in on sonar(soundcard)..make sure the track input you want to use is set to the line in you use..(also make sure your drums are not panned left or right, keep them in the center on the drum machine)
Decide which drum you want to record first and lower the volume on all the rest of the drums, cymbals etc on the drum machine all the way to "0"..
Click record on sonar and it should record the drum to the track..
Then repeat with another track and another drum till they are all recorded..don't forget to lower the volume (drum machine)on the previous drum you recorded..

It's a little time consuming but it will get the job done..
