Default Using Rewire to mix a song with Reason and Sonar 7

I am very new to all this, but my basic question is. I have rewired Reason into Sonar 7 since I want to do all the mixing in Sonar but the instruments will come from Reason.

In this case, should I not add ANY effects (Compression, eq, reverb, delay, panning, volume levels, etc.), and just wait to do that when I bounce the tracks to audio in Sonar?

Is it okay to put low cut filters using EQ and use compressor in reason to make the drums sound snappier, then use EQ and compressor when mixing in Sonar also??

Also, should I try to get the sound closest to what I am looking for in Reason using the synths (maelstrom, nx-xt, etc.) or should I just have the basic instrument sample then play w/ the sound in Sonar?

Thank you!

Default Re: Using Rewire to mix a song with Reason and Sonar 7

Hey I use Reason in Sonar 7 all the time to mix my Reason projects. I usually leave my Reason files completely raw mix-wise and just try and make sure I get all the ideas and notes correct. Then I usually go and record the Reason tracks into Sonar and do all my mixing there. But besides how I usually work, I don't see why you couldn't mix in Reason a little before mixing in Sonar. I've always thought I should try that but I figured it'd just be easier to do it all at once in Sonar.

For an idea on this listen to one of my tracks that changed quite a bit in the mixing stage. Some tracks had to be brought up using gain or normalizing after putting them into Sonar and then that noise track in the beginning had fades put on at the end. The drums were run through a delay and panned. And then I added clean guitar and reverb'd it up. In a similar section later, I basically reversed a whole section. If you have any more questions just ask.

I agree with DR, and that's the approach I use. Plus I find that if I have an audio track recorded in Sonar, I have sync issues with Reason - maybe due to my system specs, I dunno.
