Default Sonar, Firestudio Project, Stereo, Problem.

Hey guys,

I've got the Firestudio Project hooked into Sonar 8, I've got two mics, and I can't get stereo recording to work at all.

I think it's just that I don't know how to do the settings correctly, but here's what happens:

Two mics, plugged into 3 and 5 on the Firestudio. Two tracks in Sonar, one set to Mic 3 Left, other set to Mic 5 Right. My brain tells me that it should send mic 3's input to the left ear and mic 5's input to the right ear. But that doesn't happen.

Firstly, only the left 3 setting even produces sound at all, and, of course, it's in the left ear. If I change that to Mic 3 Right, nothing happens at all.

Also, I can put the tracks into stereo, and they both pick up sound from the mic's, but only in the left channel. And my left ear is tired of that.

Ultimately, what I want is to learn how to record in stereo with two microphones, and have my monitors give me one mic in the left ear, and one on the right ear.

How could this possibly be so complicated? What settings must I use?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I recently purchased an FSP and am using Sonar 6 and am still messing with it but haven't had your problem. It does sound like you have the inputs hooked up correctly. Can you record sound to those two tracks ? The only thing that comes to mind right now is that you need to select the correct DAW output to match the way you have your mics plugged into channels 3 and 5. But that still only affects the playback from your DAW. But if you are only having a monitoring problem then that should take care of it. I think the Firecontrol defaults to pairs (1&2, 3&4, 5&6, etc.), so it might be playing back 3 & 4 with the setting you are using so you aren't hearing what is on channel 5. Since it can provide up to 5 mixes, try selecting the DAW outputs that have your mic inputs on them. It does seem like its a Firecontrol mixer setting issue.
