I've got Sonar 5 Producers edition. I never was able to get that program to even give e an error message. I couldn't figure out how to get started. I admit, I don't have the manual, but I do have a third party book about 4 inches thick. Now I'm running Cubase LE that I got with my Alesis mixer.

I've got Sonar 7 and 8. I found them both to be very difficult to get started with. Too many buttons, major functions with non-standard naming. Unfortunately there really aren't any good tutorial videos for Sonar either. |

Yeah...I can imagine that all being so. I've stuck with Cakewalk, simply because that's what I started out with...I think it was "Cakewalk Music Creator" for 30 bucks at Circuit City when I started with it years ago. It was all I had or could afford at the time, and I forced myself to continue with it until I could navigate the GUI with ease. Eventually, I moved up to Sonar for the 'way-extra' feature-set. I've never looked back either. I've used other DAW applications like Cubase (in various forms), Garageband, Pro-Tools, and Logic, but, to me, those applications come off the way many describe Sonar to be. I guess I'm brainwashed to the point of no return on my DAW-app choice. I've invested so much time and energy into getting it all nailed-down that, at this point, I'd be moving backwards to really grasp another DAW in the same magnitude of which I grasped Sonar. I totally agree that there's no particularly 'good' DVD tutorials out there. However, I've gotten pretty nasty with Sonar using the "Power!" series books by Scott Garrigus. They're great. Now, there's not too much I don't know how to do in Sonar to get a particular task done in my projects. If something comes along that I'm a little sketchy on though, "Sonar Power!" nips it all in the bud for me...and quick. What's best is what works for each of us I guess, however backwards it seems to someone else. I hate cliches...Cheers,

Same here. I started with Cakewalk 3.0 and grew up with it. So I'm used to it. It's not the easiest workflow, especially if you're just getting started. I still have a tough time getting around in Cubase; sometimes the same with Pro Tools. Each seems to use a different philosophy for workflow.
