Default sonar 7 pro snap to grid?

HI all,

Im trying to understand snap to grid. Do you turn it on before recording so it snaps everything to the grid. If you snap to grid say a drum part.. when you record a vocal or instrument would it automatically snap that to the drum part.
If you use snap to grid would your record a drum part, instrument part or vocal part in which order?

Thanks from a newbie!

Snap to grid only applies to moving existing clips and MIDI notes around. (It's important to always snap to the nearest zero-crossing, regardless of what other snap options you choose.)

When referring to automatically moving events to specific beats, however, the term is "quantization".

SONAR does offer a feature for MIDI recording called "input quantization", which does the quantization as you're recording. But for audio, such as fixing up a drum track that has irregular timing, AudioSnap is the tool you'll use.

SONAR 8.5 (and 8 I think) will let you quantize audio with audio snap and then apply that same quatization to your MIDI tracks. So that would be one way. That would be a way to quantize both midi and audio.

midi you can quantize realtime, as your playing. The drum track you will have to record then, after recording ,proceed with the quantize.Once you have both the key board track and the drum track recorded you can quantize them together...First let's name the tracks ..say keyboard(track1) drums(track2) there is a button(looks like a white window frame)located at the very right side of the time/measure display(top right).select this button, you will notice transient lines appear.Make sure your audio snap is set at a eighth or sixteenth note. There should be transient lines on every sixteenth or eighth note now.Next select tracks 1 and 2(hold the shift key while you select both tracks)On either track right click the track and in the window that pops up select "audio snap enable" make sure you select(in the audio snap window)quantize to pool....experiment from there....have fun
