I have just joined the Forum after finding it on the web while trying to find answers to questions about how to adjust the volume of individual tracks in the console view is Sonar 5.2 Producer Edition. I am just a music lover who is having fun with my MIDI keyboard (Kurzweil PC88mx) and a computer. I have a limited amount of time to spend learning how to navigate through a fairly complex program such as Sonar, so I need every bit of help that I can find in any of the forums available. I have learned just enough to want to do more and I get frustrated when I can't figure out how to do it.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could explain how I can accomplish the following: In Sonar, I have opened
EWQLSO Pro SilverXP and loaded instruments into the 8 (or less) slots in the Kompakt player. I then put each instrument in a different track in Sonar and open the console view. I try to adjust the volume of each instrument to the balance that I would like to hear when I am playing (live) from the keyboard. As I move the volume fader, the number changes and it also changes in the track view simultaneously. The only problem is that there is no change in the volume of the instruments. It seems to me that the console view would be the best place to adjust volumes since it so easy to get to each fader and make changes. I must be missing something very basic about this whole process of trying to control MIDI. I have actually been able to record changes in the volume of instruments during playback of a recording by activating each fader for automation. Why don't the faders work when I am playing live? In another forum, I came across a discussion of MIDI cc7 and cc11 related to this issue; however, I did not find a discussion of how to use them or if they would be useful in what I have described above.
I appologize for the length of this initial posting since it is supposed to be an introduction for new members. I included the problem that I have been trying to find an answer for because it is the reason that I have found these forums on the web.
Many thanks to any or all who can help me become a more informed user of this great technology of making and recording music. I love music and computers, so I feel comfortable working with the current technology, but boy do I need some help!
