Default Recording cuts off at the end

I'm using Sonar 7PE and a Presonus Firestudio Tube as the recording interface. Everything seems to work fine when I am recording except when I hit the STOP icon, the tracks will display busy for a while, then I am able to play them back, the only problem is the track is usually cutoff before it reaches the end.

This happens no matter if I record for 3 minutes or 1 hour, it is always at the end. I normally don't experience pops, glitches, or drop outs. Ocassionally I will experience a dropout when I start a recording, but I can just hit record again or restart the audio engine then record.

I disable Norton anti-virus and any unneccessary programs before I start Sonar.

I am running XP Media Center Edition on an HP Pavillion Notebook dv8000. According to Presonus and Sweetwater music, XP Media Center is not a supported platform for Presonus or most recording interfaces. However I think that I should be able to get this to work, there is just something that I am over looking or don't know about. I really don't want to have to load XP Pro on this machine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: Recording cuts off at the end

I wonder if the problem may be due to having disk write caching enabled. It's possible that the end of the file is not being written out.
I'm not sure if this will help, but if you're interested...

To disable it:

Windows XP
Start at the desktop.
Right-click on My Computer, then left-click on Properties.
Click on the Hardware tab at the top.
Click on the Device Manager button.
Click on the + next to Disk Drives to expand it.
Right click on the hard drive on which to turn write caching off, then left click Properties.
Click on the Policies tab.
Click on Enable write caching on the disk to remove the tick. It must not be ticked.
Click OK.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was thinking the same thing, but I haven't been able to find an option on my computer to enable or disable write caching.

As a last resort I may have to buy an external drive to try or buy a couple of new internal drives and load XP Pro on them.
