Okay heres the deal. I'm tracking guitar for this bands demo, my Cakewalk MC4 has been working great all day for drums, and then when we go to do guitar it works for a while...we have a good tone that the guitarist really digs, and then we go to record some more, it works for a couple seconds, and then goes zhwoop and he sounds like hes in a bubble. I'm not sure if its a connection issue, or the mixer getting tired, or my computer tired...it happens every once in awhile, and it seems to happen after I've been working for awhile. Is it a hardware issue or a software/RAM issue? My setup for this particular situation is a LTD guitar into a Crate 2x12. I mic'd it with a Shure SM57 and ran it into to my Behringer Xenyx 1202 mixer and into my laptop through the little mic input...which I hope is not the issue. Anyhoo, it then goes into my Cakewalk Music Creator 4. This problem seems fatigue induced...any idea what the issue could be? Thanks |

If it is not a computer problem it sounds like a capacitance problem. My money is on the the beringer mixer. A capacitance problem is electronic and basically tends to show up when equipment is ****ed up. If the sound is not coming out of the amp it's not the amp. Well okay you probably figured that out. Computers usually drop out or give an error message. Try a different mic and see if the same thing happens. Try a different channel of the mixer but it could be the master buss that is the problem. I have seen tons of problems with the beringer stuff like this. Cheers

Shit...hmm I really dont want it to be the mixer...for obvious reasons...I guess as a last ditch...my friend has a stand alone console...can I use that just as a mixer and run it into my computer? I believe its a tascam...

Look up capacitor on wiki. Then it should be clear as mud. Basically I hope you bought the 100 yr extended warranty with the beringer mixer.

I my teaching school we've bought multiple little beringers for each room and witnessed them self destruct time and time again.

Do some basic trouble shooting. If you can hear the wierd noise through the mixer's headphone jack, then the problem is in the mixer. If so, try another input. If all inputs have the problem, it is in the summing section of the mixer. When the noise starts wobble all the cords/connections and lightly bang around the mixer to see if it changes. Could be a cracked solder joint. |
