Default Newbie help needed Soft Synths

I am looking for a DAW that will take advantage of my Vista 64 computer. I have it narrowed down to Acid Pro and Sonar ( since Cubase can't be bothered with giving us a demo to try ). Anyhow, I am able to record a track from my guitar, I am able to record a track of midi to play with the basic soundcard sounds. Now I want to attach a soft synth and hear the output. I was able to attach the soft synth and I see the meters moving when I play on my controller, but I don't hear anything.

I am assuming this has to do with routing the output from the soft synth, but I cannot figure it out with the help file.

Sonar seems to have more potential then Acid, but is sure is a lot more difficult to set-up!

Thanks in advance for any help you can lend,
Harry

Old Dog,

With Sonar you need to send the midi track output to an instrument (i.e. Cakewalk TTS).
Then send to output from the TTS to the master bus. You can insert a TTS track by selecting insert from the menu bar, select insert from track template, select virtual, select TTS and then select the instrument of choice to be played.

Good Luck,
Granite

Granite,

Perfect, many, many thanks! I was able to lay down several tracks and play them back. I still have some issues to work through, but I am much further along, and way less frustrated! I was even able to import one of the soft synths I downloaded and it worked just as expected.

Best regards,
Harry
