Hi I just came across this site and I am very happy that I did...If I tell you my setup, hopefully you can help me out....What I am having problems is with converting a midi to a MP3......... 1) Yamaha PSR 2000 Keyboard 2) Yamaha USB-Midi Interface UX96 3) Yamaha MW12 Mixing Studio 4) Yamaha MSP Reference Monitors with SW10 Sub Woofer 5) nearly 1 year old PC with soundcard ( no idea what it is ) Everything is installed and running as well as expected....I import a midi file in Sonar 8, change the track parameters to reflect this and change also Track 10 to pick the PSR 2000 Drum Kit. I have installed the PSR 2000 inf file with no problems... When I replay the midi file in Sonar, it is perfect....Sounds really good to my ears......Now this is where it confuses me... I just cannot wrap my head around this.... -Is there an easy way to save the midi file as a mp3 using the sounds from the PSR2000? Many thanks Ron |

Thanks Garageband This is what is screwing me up......Do I physically remove the R and L outs to the Mixer ( coming out of the PSR2000 ) and put them at the back of the soundcard in my PC....... Or can I leave the cabling as is and somehow connect the mixer to the soundcard? Sorry for the dumb questions but this is something that I need to know.. Ron |

Well since the mixer is a usb mixer, it is your sound card. You installed the asio driver and it's selected as your audio system in sonar? If so it should just record. Create a track and set its input to the yamaUSB audio port...may be? Not familiar with your mixer.

As per Sonar's Manual, when using a hardware synth, midi should be recorded as follows. 1) You must record each midi track in your project individually to its own audio track. To do this mute all tracks except for the midi track you want to convert to audio. 2) Insert an audio track into your project. Arm this track for recording and start to record. You are now converting your midi track into audio. Do this for as many tracks as you would like. You could record all midi tracks at once if you don't want to edit the audio by inserting one audio track and just letting the entire project play while you record on your newly inserted audio track. This is quick but you lose control of individual audio tracks. 3) When done with your conversion to audio, export the audio using file, export. I don't think you can export from sonar to mp3, but you can have a wav file exported. 4) Use an external program like audacity to convert the wav to mp3. Good luck...I have not been able to just record out to my sound card without distortion etc... Try it first, if not, this is the "official" way to go.
