Default How do I record in 24 bit bit-depth in Sonar 8 Producer!?

Please help!

For the longest time, I thought I was recording in 24 bit using Cakewalk Sonar 8 Producer. My interface is an Edirol FA-101 Firewire Audio/MIDI interface. This records at a bit depth of 24 and at a sample rate of 44.1kHz up to 192kHz. However, I just noticed in the display, at the very bottom of the track view, that my sample rate at 96kHz is displayed correctly...BUT, next to that, it displays "16 bit." I assume this "16-bit" that I'm reading at the bottom of the track view is referring to bit depth right? I thought that that might be a mistake I may have made accidentally within the audio options, but when I opened up the options menu, I already have the bit depth set at 24 bit. So, why does it still say 16-bit at the bottom of my track view? When I'm recording, everything seems to be recording fine without any sound or latency issues, which tends to lead me to believe that it's not my interface...but who knows.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

In Sonar 5P that is under Global Audio...You have Render and Recording bit depths in there...From what I remember you can have 24 bit files and render 16 bit...Generally you do that when you want to render right to CD or just 16 bit files...If record is 16 bit then you are probably 16 bit on the source files...

Just a guess as I have not seen Sonar 8 yet but I would guess it would be similar...

Thanks a load Spaceatl. I'll have to look into that...in 5P, where do you go in the menus to find the "global audio" settings you mention? I'm sure it's nearly the same in 8P...at least I hope it is. Thanks for your help.

[Edit: I'm at work and can't check just yet to find it for myself...Thanks again.]

OK HERE YA GO, across the top of sonar goto options then global. Onnce your in there goto the folder tab marked audio data. This is where you set your record , render and import bit depth. I hope this helps you out. Gary

BudManRocks and Spaceatl,

Thanks again for your replies. I'm all set now. I think when I made the switch from 7 Producer to 8 Producer, I forgot about the global settings I could do. Much obliged!

Cheers!
