Usenasio drivers if possible. Since midi produces no sound, you have to let sonar know where to direct the midi information (a sound card, a wavetable, a hardware synth) so sound can be produced.

Thank you Michael. I just want to know if there is any crucial basic midi settings that i must adhere to before actually triggering midi notes from Reason and hearing playback through my Sonar 8 and Lambda. I have checked my Sonar preference for audio, it only has an Asio driver, not Asio4all. I do not know if there are any Lexicon Lambda users here, but would surely help if they would direct me to the right process of setting up the midi. Can I just use Reason to record in audio instead of rewiring and midi? Thank you. |

ASIO4All is just a wrapper around WDM, for devices that don't provide an ASIO driver. Most interfaces, including your Lambda, do come with an ASIO driver. Whether you use that or the WDM/KS driver depends on which one works best - and you may not notice any difference in performance between them. MME should be avoided in most cases. The exception is if you're having issues and want to try the most reliable, foolproof driver for testing purposes. That would be MME. But only use it over ASIO and WDM as a last resort. At any rate, your problem is probably not related to the driver you've chosen. There is some other issue with your routing. I am not a Reason user so I can't offer any Reason-specific tips. Try using one of SONAR's bundled soft synths (e.g. TTS-1) and make sure you can get that combination going first. |

I have no problems with the latency in Sonar rewired to reason and also Line 6 guitar port direct recording. But I do have a 1/2 milisecond latency on amplitube and guitar rig 3. Anyway, guitar rig 3 is terrible! The distortion is inferior compared to Line 6 guitar port. Amplitube is not bad, but the latency is a bit irritating as I play thrash metal and i pick pretty fast. However it is nice for clean sounds. I want to mic my Marshall cabinets, but then I can almost get my guitar sound in line 6. I also would appreciate it if anyone can direct me to good drum loops to work as click track during songwriting process. Thank you so very much for the help Bitflipper. Cheers! |

I am not a fan of GR3, either. Amplitube was better, but not great either. Although I have not used it myself, I hear nothing but rave reviews for Peavey's amp sim, Revalver. For drums that play along during the composition phase, consider Jamstix. It's not only a great drum sample player (on par with the best out there), it has a "brain" that jams along with you, either as a simple drum box or interacting with your playing in a large number of different styles. A great product for a songwriter. |
