Hey again! I have another question for which I can't seem to find an answer. So I recorded a bunch of MIDI in one track, but I decided I don't want that particular instrument playing that part. I want to move that particular segment to another track and have it play with a different VST. I know of only one way to do this, which is from the Track View panel, but I can't do it that way because when I go through and edit/optimize the MIDI, it messes with the "clips" and makes a zillion little ones that overlap in some kind of haphazard and nonsensical fashion. So I have a few questions: 1) Is it possible to merge all those little MIDI clips into one big one? 2) Once I've done this, is is possible to split the big one into the sections that I want? 3) If neither of these is possible, can I (I'm guessing from the Piano Roll view) cut the notes out of one track and paste them into another? Thanks guys! You all are the best! |

For general workflow...you can have unlimited midi tracks....use them. To answer your question, if you want to use ALL the info in your track for another vst, insert vst using sonar and a blank midi track will be created. Copy the midi from our original track to the one sonar sets up for you and proceed as you would normally. If you need to select various pieces of the track that's harder to do. There are extensive cut and paste parameters on sonar. Some have to do with pitch (ie..copy or paste or cut all midi events from pitch c3 to c5). Hope this helps.

I'm trying to work with various pieces of a track. Is there no way to combine all the pieces into one big piece? Is it possible to cut the MIDI notes and stuff from one track and paste them into another?

Then, use copy/cut and paste to move 'em around...or, just drag 'em around where you want them...or, make a new MIDI track and drag the clips into the new track. It's all very versatile. Feel free to trial and error. If something happens that was not intended, just go to "edit," then select "undo" and it will go back to the way it was.
