Did you select a "program" or "kit" in the Session Drummer 2 audition box before recording?
This is how I go through the process
This excerpt is taken from a walkthrough tutorial I wrote on the subject in case I ever got amnesia or something:
* Inserting Session Drummer 2 Into Project: I like to begin with the drums. So, go to Insert>Soft Synths>Session Drummer 2. Now, double click on the tab (this is in the left pane of the track view where each track is named…e.g. “track 1”, or “drums”, or “bass,” etc.) for your MIDI drum track. A dialog box appears. Select Session Drummer 2 for the output of your MIDI drums.
* Auditioning Session Drummer For MIDI Drums: At this point, you can begin auditioning the different drum programs, or kits, that sound best with your song. To start this sometimes-lengthy process in itself, double click the black and white piano icon underneath the Session Drummer tab (that appears after inserting the soft synth itself). The Session Drummer audition box comes up. This has visual icons for the different pieces of the kits and what not. You can click on the program field to see the list of all the different kits that you can audition for your drums. Just remember that once you select a kit in the programs list, you must press the play button at the top of Sonar’s track view to hear the results, that is, if the MIDI drum track was already programmed. Otherwise, arm your MIDI track to record the MIDI...
you must make sure, however,
that you've already chosen what Session Drummer kit or program you want to use before trying to record.
