Nah...it's just another release with a few gimmicks that aren't very useful. 2 16.67%
It sounds like it'll be a pretty nasty package of value. It's a fair upgrade price of $99. 8 66.67%
I'm a "fanboy" of Cakewalk and will buy anything and everything from them...rain or shine! 0 0%
That's just great! I just bought version 8 before the "free upgrade" cutoff and feel betrayed! 2 16.67%
Cakewalk blows ass. I hate 'em. 'F' them. 0 0%

Hey guys
if you look on the Cakewalk forum here

SONAR Producer and Studio

you'll see there's been a ton of the usual bugs with 8.5.1 operation. I've been a member there for a few years and this happens every time they release an update.

Take home message is - don't ever get a Cakewalk update within 3 months of it being released. You'll just have headaches. Wait for em to find and fix all the bugs first. They always do eventually and then appolgise and assure everyone they'll get it right first up next time - they never do but they always come good after some time.

As for 8.5.1 itself - I'm not interested - just has more bells n whistles I'll never use. I already have easy EZdrummer so have no use for Session Drummer upgrade. You get a few more plugins I'll never use. Sonar 8 already does everything I need for midi. Plus if I wanna use the internet while I'm in sonar I just click my Firefox icon.

Wait a year and you'll get all this stuff for free (minus the bugs) with another update anyways.

Name one DAW software that gets it right on the first time for a new release. Then search the forums of pro tools, cubase, nuendo and every other DAW out there. Still a ton of bugs there too, yes? Bugs depend on how a user uses the program. I use 8.5.1 here and have 0 issues other than 2 slight bugs that have been going on since Sonar 7 that will be fixed in the next Sonar update because I helped to identify them personally.

You have to understand, there are so many systems, chipsets, motherboards, soundcards, drivers....there is no way for ANY DAW company to be successful for everyone at all times. Though you have the right to your opinion, I feel the above post is not a very fair thing to say in my humble opinion. You don't even have 8.5.1 to even have a credible opinion other than what you have read...which may not effect you at all, know what I mean? I don't have the issues those on the Sonar forum are reporting because I don't use it as they do. You can't damn a product because 100 people have issues with it where 10,000 do not. That's just not very fair to be honest.

Danny - what are you talking about. Did I damn Cakewalk or the product - no.
All I did was state the bleading obvious that 8.5.1 currently has bugs. And you've chimed in giving the reasons why it's almost impossible to get an update right the first time. Yep... I totally agree with you. That's why I suggested people wait a few months until Cakewalk finds & fixes all the bugs.
One great thing about em is they always do.

I'm also fully entitled to my opinion that Sonar 8.5.1 does not offer me anything that's worth $99. And also that we'll likely get the same stuff for free in the future.

The only thing unfair here is that you've misinterpreted my post so cool down and read it again

Oh I wasn't upset or bashing your opinion, your post makes it out to be "loaded with the usual bugs". All I'm saying is there is no guarantee YOU will experience those bugs, so it's not very fair to say that, that's all. Just think for a second and read what you wrote again....you are implying that because there are bugs listed in a program that it is better off waiting.

How many of those bugs reported ARE user errors? How many ARE driver specific or system specific? Understand? If you have not used 8.5.1 yourself, why always believe what you read?

That's fine that you don't think 8.5.1 is for you....I respect that totally. But to post saying that it's loaded with the usual bugs isn't really a fair representation nor is it factual for you (since you DON'T even have it) or those that are using it 50+ hours a week without a crash. So I'm unfair for speaking up for something that I use that you haven't that works perfectly for me? Wouldn't I be in the wrong if I posted something in the Pro Tools part of this site showing PT 8's bug threads I read, yet I don't even have it? I think I sure would be.
