This is a pretty dead section huh? Guess all the new home studio have been created and no one needs any more help. Well, there goes the market for indies. Or, have I been black listed?

2 of the towers are for storage, I pull my program sound files from them. The other two are using logic node.

Yeah, this is one of those "developing" section....kind of like a developing country. Usually these things grow into active sections, but this topic is probably a little more advanced that most people want to tackle. I don't blame them! Brandon |

I just caution on developing a "bash my recording studio" thread using pics alone. I've seen other forums where it didn't work. There's really not a good way to objectively or accurately bash a studio setup via jpg's. However, posting pics of studio setups is a good idea. I just don't recommend getting into the bashing arena. It'll turn into a never-ending cycle...sort of like the "Does Sampling Rate Matter" thread.

In many cases, except for vocals, the instruments are going into the box direct where the acoustic environment is not a factor (for recording). However, monitoring is a different situation and needs an acoustically controlled room, but this is where cost can be a factor. I think some DIY Room Treatment threads and the information you provide is/would be very helpful. Even for a one-room studio, purchasing room treatments (i.e., bass traps, broadband absorbers, diffusers, hanging clouds, straddling, etc) can get very costly, very quickly. Priority is another issue. When does it become a priority? If I have $200 in my pocket. Do I buy that Rode NT-1 or do I buy "pillow cushions" (i.e., bass traps and broadband absorbers)> I spent over $3,000 on room treatment over the past couple of years, but until that point I was a victim of candy (ooh, new mic) over broccoli (ahh, broke down and got some room treatment). The benefits of room treatment do pay off in your end product. kingblake, keep doing what you're doing and try to keep this section of the forum halfway alive. It'll pick up.

Another factor, besides just differences in demographics, is it's not all that fun (for me anyway) to discuss acoustics. I look at that as a pain in the ass hurdle we have to jump through. While I'm fairly up on the subject, I'd dramatically prefer discussing engineering or producing techniques. I put room acoustics in the same category as studio wiring. You need to make special concessions for it, but once it is done, you move on to the fun part. Brandon |
