Songs will not play! HELP!

For some reason, my Windows XP will no longer play the songs posted in the forums. When I click the play button, it stretches out and indicates buffering, but the song never loads. If I click on the MP3 link, I'm taken to a messsage that asks if I want to open the file in Internet Explorer (this is where the songs used to just open automatically in Windows Media Player).

I have re-installed flash player, to no avail. I also set WMP as my default device.

Can anyone give me a hint why this happened; and what I can do to rectify the problem?

ah, get firefox and update to the mp11 or that's a good start, set all the IE defaults to default as well.
