Red face A more 'newb'-friendly site?

Is there another forum that has patience enough to answer my Q's about the Sonar V-Studio? There will be many I imagine, but I absolutely HAVE to figure this out soon. I am currently unable to compose anything after being scammed into $600 worth of dysfunctional products, purchasing a $1000 PC and a $699 V-Studio, a $100 mic, $70 speakers and a $100 Oxygen8v2...and oh yeah, don't forget the $100 desk to put it all on!....

$2,670 (minimum) and I can't make music yet.....I'm almost ready to start lookin' for a rope.

FUCK! ....HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...Sorry...RANT OFF....

There are hundreds of forums on the net today but none of them (in my experience) are as friendly helpful and patient as this one.

...
This is a friendly, informative, and helpful board.

However, for some unique, very specific questions that you need in a hurry, you may want to spread the wealth abit.

Since this is a detailed question about using Sonar V-Studio (which very few if any folks on this board have used or are familiar with), you may want to also ask this question on the Cakewalk Forum. They're very helpful as well.

I'm a long-time user of Sonar, but have never used V-Studio. I'm sure some folks on the Cakewalk Forum have.

Cakewalk Forums

... and oh yeah.....

Thanks for your understanding guys. This does seem like a nice environment, I guess it's really MY patience that needs work.

OK, so my username is a false representation of my broke ass! FYI :P

Anywho, today's a new day and dammit it's goin' down!
I don't understand why I can hit a key and bring my hand back to the top of my head before I hear a sound??? Is it because of the 1.1 usb from the Oxygen8? Are there potentially mismatched 'sample rates'? (if that's what ya call it) I guess I should lookup the definition of Latency as well, eh?
...LOTS of learning to do!

Thank you guys again. Your assistance is truly invaluable to me.

PS: Never even crossed my mind to look for a Cakewalk forum! Fuckin' MINT brother!

That's quite possible. It sounds like some delay going on. If you have a new computer, it shouldn't be the lack of processing power. Is the Oxygen8 USB 2.0 capable?

It doesn't appear to be a latency issue either.

It's probably not mismatched sample rates. If it were, you would get Mickey Mouse or a slow rumble sound from your playback.

It's tough to diagnose without being there.

The computer is extremely quick with everything else, but I noticed the 1.1 USB is listed as a FEATURE?...Really?...

I'd like atleast 61 keys anyways, so maybe I'll pickup a new board. However, for future reference, could I run a midi cord out from the keys into the VS100 and then run the 2.0 usb into my PC?...does that even make sense?

you might want to list excatly what you our using, i.e. pc, ram, sound card/interface any thing that can be used to understand your problem better without actually being there.

from my understanding of your posts is you get sound but there is an extreme delay correct?

The Oxygen 8 is a master keyboard. It has no sounds. USB 1.1 is fine (faster than MIDI!).

If the Oxygen is the problem, I'd be very surprised.

Thanks for weighing in richiebee. Do you have any idea why I would experience so much delay? It didnt happen w Reason 4 on my old-ass lap-top....If it's not the 1.1 usb that's doing it, than I'm at a complete loss as far as troubleshooting (and happiness altogether for that matter). I dont know...both shit AND miracles do happen. I'll figure it out if it fucking kills me!
