Hi, I'm new to this Forum but I belong to a couple of others - the Les Paul Forum, is one for example. Although I've been a member for a short time I have noticed a disappointing trend here - namely, that most postings receive a large number of "Reads", but a correspondingly low number of "Replies". Surely the whole idea behind a "Forum" is the exchange of knowledge and ideas... Come on guys - Reply! C. |

I should probably point out that this whole "reads" field is pretty much useless in my opinion. It means absolutely nothing to me. I'm not sure how the forum software calculates that statistic. When it comes to tech support type of questions, however, it's a given that a smaller percentage of people are going to feel qualified to answer the question. The bigger the problem, often the fewer the posts. This is just the way it is, for better or worse. I'm sure that a thread entitled "Your Favorite Boobies" is going to get more posts than "IRQ Conflicts In Windows". It's just the nature of the beast. Another problem is the Zoom forum is brand new. I just added that a week or two ago and tossed any threads that had "Zoom" in the title in there. Because of that, it's not met critical mass like the Cubase forum has. Another way of responding to this discussion is with the whole "do unto others thing". The Eastern philosophy states that you can't expect more from others than you do from yourself. In other words, according to this Eastern view anyway, you can't expect people to go out on a limb answering your posts until you have done the same for others. This seems to hold true in reality as well as web forums, although some of us certainly get lucky from time to time. Lastly, (I don't mean to call anyone out here, but this illustrates my point) I think it's a bit interesting that Munsterduane took the time to hop on this particular thread (which I'm glad he did) but didn't take the time to help Charlie Porter with his question when he would definitely have the answer. Help - my HD clicks on record Again, I'm not being critical. I'm just offering a potential solution to the problem of a lot of reads but not a lot of replies. |

I'm still trying to find the "Your Favorite Boobies" thread!

Brandondrury, Wow, that was a detailed reply! Thanks. I feel duly oriented. If only I could get a similarly comprehensive answer to my "click" question.... As I said, I'm new to the Forum and so I haven't been around long enough to "do unto others" too much. However, you'll be pleased to learn that I've been doing it unto others big time on the Les Paul Forum.... Any thoughts on the Click question....? C. |

I understand what your saying Brandon and love what your doing here for us. And I did mention that the site has been helpful to me.I just wish there were more people who, have more recording experience than I, would step up and offer some advice. As to Charlies problem i have no experience to help him but was merely answering to the part about lots of readers and not many reponders.I still believe this to be the best site for help and im on here almost daily.Again Thanks Brandon and I will try to be more of a responder myself rather than a reader. Best to lead by example.

I think one thing that's entirely missing from above responses is focus on the quality of replies...for the most part I think you need a low response to read ratio to be quality oriented...if everybody was able to respond to everything, no one would need to be here to learn...I learn a lot by listening and viewing others input when I don't have a clue about a solution or the correct terminology or point of attack on a mix. I only respond if I think my answer is hopefully going to help. {sometimes it's hard to resist just posting something funny...but that's not really helpful, in a productive way...) |

These are all good points. In the end, it comes down to the fact that forums aren't perfect. When Killer Home Recording is released, I do want to hire some people to answer questions. Even then, these guys won't know everything just as I don't know everything. I've never used a Zoom recorder in my life. If I did, I'd gladly answer. Until enough Zoom guys happen to be on the forum at the same time, the rest is history. This is a major problem with the standalone boxes. There are so many that it compartmentalizes individuals into very small groups that makes getting help pretty tough. It does need to be pointed out that there are a ton of VERY generous, knowledgable dudes on here who help out constantly. The secret is posting the kind of questions they know how to answer. Quote:

I read the post but had no clue what you were talking about so there was no reason for me to reply. Im sure all the other 'readers' were in the same boat.
