Best recording - worst equiptment (or cheapest anyway)

There should be a standard equipment for all the partecipants. For example: 1 shure sm58, 1 shuresm57, etc.

That equipment's not even bad... Maybe like one Radio Shack mic...

Anyway, I dig the idea. It's about all I could afford anyway.

Yeah its kind of a tough one. probably why nobody replied for so long.

It could be fun if the contest is determined on best sounding recording vs a point system handicap.

For instance:
A. Using less than 5 mics on the drums would be +10 points, Using more than 8 mics on the drums would be -10.
B. Using only mics from a kit under $250, like the CAD or NADY set would be plug 5. Using mics that cost over $150 would be -5 point for each mic. Over $400 like sennheiser 421 or NT5 set would be -10 each.
C. Total number of mixing channels including bus channels under ten would be +50

I could come up with a whole list of point system.
The problem, it would have to mostly on honor system.

Yeah 7, you know its a funny catch22 because for a guy like me, I dont own any junky stuff as im sure most of our serious forum brothers dont. So thats one hang up.

Umm i think its an ok idea, maybe not for a contest though. I dont know.

But it would be cool to see what somebody could do with some radio shack mics and straight into the computer,free plugs ect.

There is something to the novelty of such a contest. The only problem is not everyone has the same cheapo gear. The guy with the Audix I5 wouldn't be able to compete in an SM57-only competition.

So we'd have to factor in something like that.

The problem, it would have to mostly on honor system.

Yeah. I've found that the greater the prize, the less honorable people become.
