Hey Brandon

I was looking at a voice-over forum I suscribe to, and found a cool feature. The forum tools kind of thingy includes a "threads since your last visit" link. I thought this may be a nice addition to your forum page. Users can then see exactly what new threads have been started instead of seeing which threads have been recently replied to. I think this will encourage more responses on new threads.

I am not sure if it is possible to add features to your forum layout though. Do you use a "packaged" forum?

This is more of a vent post than anything and I should preface it with IMNSHO...

There are too many posts. I went away for a day and a half and there were 201 posts. It becomes too much to wade through. Are the introductions all that helpful? Does anyone really read them? Does anyone really care? I don't think so. It's a phony nicety. Still have to wade through them all.

Too many people make no attempt to search for an answer and just throw out a question or a problem even though it was already covered in another thread. Is it really so difficult to do a forum search first? Not sure much can be done about that. As I said, just venting.

Oh, and people who ask others to judge their tone. When it comes to tone, no one else can tell you whether a certain tone is "good" or "bad". It's totally subjective and should be added to banned things like w a r m. A question on how to get a specific tone is one thing. "How is my tone" is pointless.

Okay, I'm done.

It's not a "phony nicety". When I wasn't away working on my book I responsed to each and every one of them. Now it's gotten away from me. I have 3,995 threads to respond to since I've been away.

Maybe I should kill it at least temporarily until I get back on my feet. I do like answering each and every person, but I have to admit that it has become harder and harder to do.

Forums go through various modes. Kind of like infant, toddler, whatever, puberty, etc. When RecordingReview.com was a toddler I never minded people repeating questions. Now that the site is growing up, it appear I'm gonna have to change my policy in that area. I haven't really pushed anyone to search first, but I can definitely see how 7 thread about compression basics could push down some of the other threads.

When my book thingy is finished I think this will change somewhat as the book should take care of 95% of the questions asked.

Well, if there was zero objectivity to it I could see your point. There is SOME objectivity, but I know exactly what you are saying. I think there are some sounds that we all agree are bad, but after that it becomes about simply making music. I do hate the threads where the guy does have a tone that is totally doable for a song to come through and people nick nack about tiny little things that don't make any better....just different.

Hi! Ihave not been around for a while, Great new updated site.
Thanks to all involved! I will be in the background looking and learning.
When I have something to contribute I'll jump in with my 2 cents worth.
I have not had much time to do anything with music , or recording lately, also a lot of my gear just up and ran away [stolen and sold by family member with drug problem]. Anyway.thanks to everybody that makes this site what it is.

I'm not a forum regular but, even when logged in, find it very disturbing to see the two adds (Metal guitar, Killer home recording) all the time. Understand why of course but nevertheless!!

Compliments for a very instructive site.
