Okay So Here Is A Little Suggestion To Go WITH The Raffel Idea. What If You Added A "Donate" Button So That When Pople Click On The Forum Tab Or What Have You, They Would See The PayPal Donate Button? Think About It We Have Like Fillions Of People On Here Who Can Afford To Buy Expensive Software And Recording Gear So I Really Think That They Afford 5 10 Bucks To help Out. With As Many People As We Have ON The Forum I Think You Could Seriously Put Your Money Woes At Ease. LINK MEYEHERE: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we...-intro-outside I Dont Think They Cost Money To Have All You need Is A Paypal Account Which I Think Is Free. So Just Like It To The Card You Use To Pay The Server Costs With And BAM!!! Done!. Tell Me What You Think...

I've seen similar things work before. At one point I was really into alternative fuels and learned a lot about that on a forum where they basically had a thingy off to the side that said: "It costs XX/year to run this forum, so far we have YY dollars donated this year. Please support the forum. " And people chipped in there and that worked out fine too. If I remember right that forum had hosting costs in the range of $1600/year or so and they seemed to meet that no problem. I mean this in only the nicest way but... believe me you have never seen a group of cheapskates like the alternative fuels crowd ... you got a lot of guys in there storing explosive chemicals in their garage so that they can make their own biodiesel for $1/gallon and thus save maybe $1000 per year. If that group can support a forum this group here can can do it too. Charlie ** note: take my remarks about biodiesel guys in the right context. The $1000 per year is probably not their actual motivation - many of us were trying to make a difference, but it is a cheap bunch nonetheless!

O ya I don't mean cheapskate in a derogatory way at all. I also went VO also purely on the basis of simplicity... it's so much simpler and for me it was just a better solution. Sold the truck last summer and I really do regret that now... only sold it because we were moving 500 miles away and moving the fueling station that far was too much hassle. I really do miss having the closest thing you can get to a solar powered vehicle. From an economic perspective in my case it hardly matters since I only drive about 8k miles / year these days. I truly only did that whole VO thing because I was so stunned that it was even possible, and because I did want to do a bit for the earth. Truth is that the guy who bought my truck drives a lot more than I do so on that basis it's probably better overall that he has it.

s*** yeah. If you get a colorful thermometer gif with a link to your hosts pricing list with an arrow to your package price (and what you're asking in $), I'll chip in.

My friend had a very small site/message board (probably 100+ registered users and 15-20 active) and still managed to pay for the hosting with one of those thermometer paypal links. (Of course, that was a much cheaper site to host...)

I guess I need to find a thermometer, come up with the exact number, and go from there. Brandon |

I've pretty much been against the whole "Keep a donate link up all the time" thing from the beginning of this conversation. But the thermometer idea is really cool. Maybe if that were supplemented by a donation reward giveaway thing, you could be certain to bring in the necessary funds to run this site.
