Default About Gear Review Section

Hi,

This is just a suggestion about the new gear review section.

The description given is something which is there in any other site like ebay etc..or the company's site itself.

What this section should target is to get comments from people who actually have used/using the gear so that people with doubts can get the "real picture" about them.

People with technical knowledge can also give their comments on the technicalities of the gear.

for eg;The soundcard wizard is very very helpful in choosing good sound cards as per recording requirements and budget. This section might further clear any doubts about their performance so that a person can come to a final conclusion.

Those comments are put there by Brandon precisely because they are the company's description of the product. Then we are supposed to use the template provided by Brandon when we click on "Review me" to provide our review of the product. For an example, read the reviews of the Shure SM57, SM81 or SM7b or PT LE, which are all reviews that I did.

The problem is that many of the products that have been listed by Brandon don't have even one review yet. If you see something there that you can provide feedback on, jump right in and let everyone know what you think of the product.

bilco

I think you just haven't read through all of the reviews yet.

Yeah, the Review section is brand new. In fact, there were only like 30 products in the damn thing until this past week. A band owes me some money so I'm going to be putting them to work doing the super fun task of data entry. By tomorrow I hope to have at least 1,000 products in there.

Then, I can put together some kind of contest and get the ball rolling to get people posting reviews.

Me too. I have definite plans to include amps, drums, keyboards, and just about anything we may talk here at Recording Review in addition to the usual recording crap. My future expansion plans should appeal to a broad audience (anyone who is a musician) so musical instruments will be included. It just takes time and work adding these damn products.

I initially wanted to provide something better than the bullshit hype the manufacturers always dillute their descriptions with. However, doing this with 2,000 products is unrealistic. I'm better off just copying the description from Musiciansfriend.

I'm posting a Review of my new "baby" - I have a roomful of amps (just 7) including 4 tube amps and was hunting for a great recording amp - kept trying different tube amps - 2 VJ's and 2 Vintage 60's combos but recently aquired a VOX DA10 SS modeling amp - wow... the tone is just amazing - I believe I found the amp to record with and it's a 10-watt SS modeling amp. Tone is just rich and lush - time will tell - just ordered a Shure 57 and will begin my quest when it arrives. Don't believe all the "Tube Amp" hype - some SS amps have beautiful tone - I also have an old 80's Roland 50-watt DAC-50XD that's basically a poor mans Jazz Chorus - 4 speakers and chorus and delay to die for built-in (along with flanger, etc) - cleans are amazingly rich even cranked up to deafening levels.

I agree, but I haven't found a solid state amp with "modeling" in it's name that ever sounded anywhere near "beautiful". I'm glad you are having better luck.

Brandon
I tried a few modeling amps awhile back (Microcube, Spider, etc) but was never really impressed - already had 2 multi-effect pedals so I had all the digital effects I needed. This new Vox actually sounds better - that's why I wanted the sm57 - the DA10 has an emulated LINE OUT for recording direct into a board or computer, etc. but I want to Mic it and listen to it "objectively" - just to make sure I'm not hallucinating or just infatuated with a new toy. I swear it has great tonal qualities...
