Yes, I'm Playing With A Facebook (Wastebook) Mod
I check my Facebook account about once per month or whenever I find a way to profit from it. Where some asshole I met 8 years ago is getting his car fixed does not interest me.
I'm toying with a mod that kinda sorta integrates what a person does here with their Facebook account if they so choose. You can see the "Facebook Connect" thing in the header.
For now this is just an experiment. I hope it makes RecordingReview.com better, but we'll see. This mod was included with the forum software so I figured that SOMEBODY was getting some benefit out of it.
If you hate Facebook, ignore it. If you like Facebook, see what happens. If it tears anything up, let me know.

I saw it and it gave me a question mark over my head. Nice to have an instant explanation.

Having a connection to your Facebook account can come in handy.
I'm not sure how I'd use it with this Forum, but I'm game to smoke-test it and see what happens.TonyB

Nope,: The info it wants to share goes beyond what I share publicly at Facebook - not by amiount but in combinations - I have a house rule: don't allow Apps access to info on my facebook account. So it doesn't happen. Others may not be such scaredy cats and may find no problems. I don't risk it.
But nice to see you embracing the 21st century B.

Ha! You won't find many dudes who keep a closer eye on scientific breakthroughs than I. I'm all about them...I just don't use the stupid ones too often. But nice to see you embracing the 21st century B.
I don't really consider Facebook to be 21st century. It's more like 2010. It'll probably be replaced within the next 1-10 years by something else. We'll see.

Re: Yes, I'm Playing With A Facebook (Wastebook) Mod
It may be replaced, but only after a significant technology change. Society in general has grasped the concept of instantaneous social networking.
What tools will be used in the future will change, but most of society are locked into the capabilities to instantly contact any of your friends at anytime on multiple platforms. (sorry, the IT Geek in me is coming out).
Society has changed over the past decade on how (not talking hardware/software) we communicate with each other.
Facebook may go away, but the instantaneous social networking will not. It's here to stay.TonyB

Yeah, I agree. It seems that a major technological shift would be necessary for Facebook to be ditched. We'd have some kind of direct brain-to-brain thing going on that us "old timers" wouldn't understand.

Re: Yes, I'm Playing With A Facebook (Wastebook) Mod
Way back in the 20th century, we had the precursor to Facebook. It was called hanging out on the corner and talking. Did the same stuff. Had to listen to the same crap from other people about the minutiae of their everyday lives. Didn't need constant photo posts...they were right there in front of us! But, interestingly, it was just as important then as it is today. It connected people, was a forum for social introductions, and an "instant" information dissemination mechanism.
Regardless of technology (which usually is a good thing) when it comes to the human condition, things don't change that much. Don't agree? Give me some substantive examples.

Re: Yes, I'm Playing With A Facebook (Wastebook) Mod
I think that facebook will be around for awhile. It is so widely used that it is hard to imagine it becoming obsolete without a major breakthrough. I have google+ and while it has promise, there isn't enough users right now for it to be worth it. I think that in the future it could be a relevant tool, providing that it can nail down a market, and establish a base that will make users want to use it. But since this isn't about Google +, or Facebook in general, I think that linking this site on facebook could end up as a solid way of connecting with more people, and more users. And worst case scenario, it just becomes another page, or app, or tool on facebook that nobody ever sees, and nobody ever cares about.... Worth a try
