Default Top 5 - 2008 Christmas Song Contest

There were plenty of EXCELLENT songs/recordings posted in this years 2008 Christmas song contest. This was, by far, the best song contest we've had here at RecordingReview.com. We have 5x the number of entries as last year. Hopefully, we can continue to grow at this exponential rate!!!

Because of the quality of tunes entered this year, I feel guilty for not pushing harder to get sponsors for the top 5. (I've been too busy working on that damn home recording book! ) So to all of you in the top 5, I owe you a RecordingReview.com t-shirt when I get them printed up. (That's my #1 priority when the book is released).

WINNER OF Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0
#1 O Holy Night (Classical/Rock/Blues Flavor) by Metaltyme

#2 John D. Lewis and Ingleton CE School : The Christmas Wish by Shackman

#3 Scooterlow's: When I see Christmas by Scooterlow

#4 Rocking around the christmas tree by Mia Flora

#5 Have a Merry Old Christmas Time by KennyWoods

I'd like to personally thank everyone who participated. Everyone did a tremendous job! Thanks!!!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Brandon

i thought the 3rd one was the best out of those 5 and its not even close imo..

the first one was rea good too, but no vocals.

the third track was a complete track, good vocals/mixing/instruments... i would have given it to number 3

Shackman:

Hate to resort to an old cliché, but it applies here:
You win some; You lose some.

A couple of examples from my own career:

I entered a regional songwriting contest three years in a a row. I was convinced it was rigged until I won.

I was really excited when my contest-winning song was recorded by an up-and-coming major label band, but then disappointed when the band was dropped from the label before my song was released.

That's show business...

You had a strong contender in this year's contest and made it to the top 5!--congratulations.

This contest isn't perfect. But it sure was fun.

Feedback on 2008 Christmas Song Contest

I had to severely edit this thread. Those posts used to voice malicious intent were deleted. Those with constructive criticism were moved to the link above.

If I have to delete a few posts to keep RecordingReview.com a fun, positive place to come together and make better recordings, so be it. I'm still hard at work on the home recording book and...."while the parents are away, the kids will play".

Brandon I hope you didn't feel anything I said had malicious intent. I was speaking in total honesty and truth. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone or anything but I don't think anyone likes to be deceived either.

After listening to all the entries. I guess my vote would have been Scooterlows song "when i see christmas" .i liked the song as writing it , vocals real nice, and it being an original ,well , thats a winner but all of you had your votes, The other song i see was a karaoke song with a guitar solo. How many tracks invested i don't know but, i guess his guitar talent is great. I can respect the scooter song as a whole, the idea,of writing a song for a contest only to think others all write a song. The guitar song was great playing but wheres the vocals. scooters song had great vocals, piano, other instruments "and HE wrote it . Well I have found the songs as i did not check out all the way before but 'Thats all i am ever saying" i have heard with my ears ,and truly feel the best overall song for a combination of talents should have gone to scooter. when i see christmas.
and no , i don't know him at all or where he is from etc.
