can we just donate money ,to say, a paypal account? Not much on gambling, or the fact that my luck is so bad, i somehow just lost $5 typing this in-. prizes would be cool, but it seems like too much hassle on your part. stright out cash probably works best i imagine. So, like, where can I send money to the server "quake" fund?

I think it's a fine idea. If you're worried about potentially making a raffle that defeats the purpose by gong negative, you could say up front that the prize or gift cert would be, say... $200 and just say up front that if the gross is less than some threshold the prize would be less (say, $50 or something as a backstop). I think people would find that acceptable and trust you to live up to it either way. You might even be able to get an advertiser (MF or zzounds or one of those guys) to give you a discount on the prize or gift cert in exchange for placement of their banner in the raffle promo materials. My wife was a marketing kingpin for years before she took up nursing, seems like some of that rubbed off over the years. Just some thoughts.

Hey recordingreviews community,
I wouldnt want to depend on ticket sales for recurring expenses... getting a sponsorship (1U rackspace + traffic & bandwidth) from some company like musiciansfriend would be cool (they must have rackspace somewhere since they're probably hosting their own servers). Perhaps use the money from ticket sales to buy some hardware. Would probably solve the problem once and for all.

On the other hand... thats me - I'm a newb - and anyways? what do I know?!

I'm fine with any fundraising idea including just donating some cash. In fact, I'd give you $10 just to lay off of the capitalist / socialist rants.

The biggest capitalists all want handouts - big time $$$. The socialists mostly want a pint of milk for the kids every day.

Hi, sorry I haven't posted much yet or properly introduced myself. But I'm Luke from oz and I'll butt in with my 2 cents.

I'm with meow cat on this one. Is it going to be feasable to hold a raffle everytime things are getting tight? It might be a good start but seeking some long term sponsership would be better. Maybe a bulletin to all members asking if they have any contacts or could direct you to a potential sponser.

I know some companies give a return for clicks on their banners, so if you have one here we could all click it and make you some cash.

You can still have some of my hard earned aussie dollars though as their pretty strong against the US now.

All the best.

Luke

It might end up being more work than it's worth, but the winner could always recieve a cd of their stuff mixed by THE brandon drury. It'd be free except for the time and could be pretty interesting.

This website gives me a great deal of information. I go out and buy $30 books and $40 DVD's, this site gives me as much or more help with recording than a single book or DVD. If you put a donation paypal button up I would donate.

If you want to make it a raffle that is fine but I think we all get so much from this site that it shouldn't take a 50/50 split to get us to help keep this site going and growing.

In any case, I think it is about time you solicit donations or do some fundraising. Don't feel like Stalin about it at all, the Internet is an incredible tool for us to use to help us do things we could not otherwise do, it has a value to most of us.

I'm from the UK... (as are most of the worlds best musicians!!!! lol... Only joking my US friends) but count me in. I've got a lot of valuable information from the forum in setting up my studio and you should always help the hand hand that feeds you.

Well done Brandon.

Regards
