Recording Review Contest Ideas?

Hello all,

It has just been confirmed that Recording Review will be given a major audio interface to be given away in a contest. So I wanted to look for ideas for contests that would be both fun for current Recording Review members as well as bring in new Recording Review members.

Any ideas?

I think the contest should be for the best songwriter/composer "in need".

In other words, it is clear the person has potential to cut great music but lacks any sort of proper equipment to do so.

Ideally, the winning entry would be a catchy tune which had potential but which was recorded poorly.

It seems silly to give someone who already has an "adequate" amount of equipment yet another piece when there are many who are struggling to afford the basics.

(of course, that is who I am, so I am biased!!)

But anything you decide to do would be so nice and very generous of you! This is only my admittedly biased two cents.

Well, It would make sence to me to have a contest for the "Most professionally recorded song". With all your experience you could judge each song and determine which song would be the most marketable in the real world. The only catch would be that if there are any "Pros" it would not really be fair because they already have the upper hand and experience.

I'm a big fan of the site-wide scavenger hunt.

"What did I say about this product I reviewed three years ago?"
"What's my biggest product pet peeve?"
"How many soundcards are in the wizard?"
etc.

And then a drawing from people who get the correct answers.


Let's drive some site traffic!

It should be a random drawing. And people with more posts should get more entries. To judge someones abilities and/or their need for equipment is a totally objective way of picking the winner. I feel i need the equipment the most, but should I automatically win it? lol of Course not.
A completely random non-partisan drawing is the only fair way to give away the prize. And quite honestly, the people with the best recordings on here, dont really need the equipment anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

People with more posts to get the most entries? I'm sorry I don't like that one. You should be able to fill out an entry form, one entry form per account, on line of course.
I don't always post but I do come in and read various posts and when I have something to say. I post,like now.

The idea behind it is to encourage more people to contribute to the forums, and those who contribute more often will be rewarded.

You guys do bring up some good points. The particular item in question (which I'm not going to name until I'm 1000% sure that this deal will go through) wouldn't be a ton of good to me. In fact, it's very similar to a product I already have.

Of course, I'm not shy about my political views. We aren't giving away food, clothing, or shelter (necessities). We are giving away a luxury. So, giving based on needs is a bit too far on the commie left for my tastes.

With that said, the fact that guys in my situation already own a relatively high end audio interface the motivation for entering the contest will appeal to people who don't have an audio interface or would like to upgrade to a larger mult-channel audio interface. That should naturally take care of the "need" element.

So, I'm looking for specific contest ideas like:

• Diamond In The Rough - The best song with not-so-good production
• Most improved mix - The mix that shows the most dramatic improvement in Bash This Recording
• Best Marketed Song - The song with the most plays wins
• Best sounding mix - The best sounding mix (we'll vote) takes all
• Biggest guitar sounds wins
• Best Mix Of Tracks I Post - I post tracks and we vote for whoever mixes them the best.
• Recording Book Theme Song - The person that submits the best Recording Review Book theme song wins
• Biggest Loud Mouth - The person that sends Recording Review the most new members wins
• Most Reviews - The person who reviews the most products wins

Those were just a few ideas off the top of my head.

The Cheapest Recording Equipment = Best Sound
