Cant believe i didnt read this before i used the W word in a my thread a million times. Well in my defence i am a newbee..... Maybe you want to ban the word Cool....Ive been tricked by salesmen many a time who have got me to buy something saying " its got some realy cool effects" and "it Looks really Cool" or the worst one, is when a mate dosent want to hurt your feelings about your latest track.........."sounds Cool man" took me years to figure out this really meant Your latest track does absolutely nothing for me, leaves me cold, is really crap!!!!! |

I guiess I could ban cool, but I think it's a given that "cool" is just another word for "good". Brandon |

* * * * to me means not brittle which is something some digital recordings are and some are not. Maybe people associate it with analog gear because valves get ****, and valves sound nice (usually). FAT, now there is a new beast all together. Once the penny dropped for me that fattness is a culmination of thinness my mixes improved ten fold. Cheers |

can you add "phat" and "toob" as well?

So far I haven't had a problem phat and tube. Knock on wood. I'm hesitant to implement too many laws. Brandon |

*ducks*I've personally had more trouble deciphering the meaning behind the word "thin" than the swearword in question. I personally blame guitar amplifier salesmen for this type of profanity! |

I don't agree that the use of the word is 100% useless as Brandon puts it. It has validity that is used throughout the music world, not just in the studio. When I was 13 my trumpet teacher tried to get me to play with a w a r m er tone... today I do. That was in the days when digital was a just someone's pipe dream. Just because you, or anyone out there doesn't understand it, doesn't mean it has no value. I believe in w a r m th. I've been subjected to it as a descriptor my whole musical life. That said, it's Brandon's forum, so he can do what the fuck he likes. |

Dammit! No wonder that word was getting asterisked out of my posts. Now I think about it (and thank you I guess for making me think about it) yes it is a little vague and maybe multi meaningful to whoever reads it. I used the term in relation to a PHAT desk (lol). *Note: PHAT meaning something that enhances something tenfold and usually costs a lot of dosh. **Note: DOSH meaning money. //sarcasm Yes I am a noob when it comes to using technical terms to explain what I mean literally I guess. But for me, w a r m t h (in the context of musical equipment) has a meaning relating to physical components as opposed to virtual components. Virtual components don't get PHYSICALLY w a r m e r , they can just get virtually w a r m e r (like a virtual Overdrive FX unit). *Note: OMFG, just realised I have to now literally explain that wa r m e r (in the context of musical equipment components I used above) means an increase in temperature due to electrical usage and not a sound thing. /sigh Last edited by Hunter33; 02-01-2008 at 03:32 PM. |
