Basically, one argument against the use of profanity is it makes the user look unintelligent. 4 letter words are considered to be used by the small minded or whatever by some people. Some consider the use of 4 letter words to insult the intelligence of the person who has to hear it. Well, I'm not sure if my favorite words (like words that describe fornicating or faeces) fit this criteria, but I know one word that gets used often on this forum that 100% fits this criteria. It's the word "w a r m". (Okay, maybe "w a r m" has more to do with ignorance than stupidity in terms of audio engineering). Either way, I'm convinced that the forum would be better off without this type of rubbish talk!! Feel free to use whatever other language you see fit. The only word I've decided to exercise my authoritarian powers on is the word "w a r m". Feel free to create your own conspiracy theories on the inevitable creation of a recording police state....or forum. Brandon

Recordingreview.com was created because in my struggle to get where ever I am in my recording journey I've been lied to a half a million times. Assholes who didn't know the answer just passed on their urban myths and confused the hell out of me to the point where I wasted years of time and tens of thousands of dollars figuring out that these myths were mostly garbage. "W A R M" is one of these bullshit words. Let's say you are selling your bass on Ebay and you get an email from a guy. He asks "Hey dude, the bass looks good. I was just wondering if it has a "w a r m" sound. If you say it has a sound "w a r m", I'll buy it. If you say it doesn't have a "w a r m" sound, I won't buy it". This damn "w a r m" word has caused me more damn problem with helping people with their audio engineering issues than probably any other issue. This evil word is the basis of marketing for just about every home recording product on the planet. Some people (usually beginners) read that X mic has a "w a r m" sound in an advertisement, so they they think that this mic is superior to other mics. They may not realize that another microphone had "w a r m" in its advertisement the month earlier. Even worse, both microphones may sound COMPLETELY different, but both use the "w a r m" word in their ads. Why? Because "w a r m" equals "good" to anyone who may be not have looked deeper on the subject. By banning "w a r m", we immediately force any beginner who may have used the "****" word to take notice to this exact thread. "W A R M" means completely different things to different people. Some think it means "bassy". Some think it means "dull". Some talk about "tube w a r m t h" that comes from tubes distorting. The problem with this comes with tubes distorting adds harmonics in the upper mids and can actually make the sound less "bassy" and less "dull". In the end, words are a crappy of way of describing the sound of music or audio engineering. They all have their fair share of subjectivity in them. However, I think I can live with "bright", "harsh", "thin", "dull", "bassy", and "boxy" as they have at least some sort of objective content. However, "w a r m" has absolutely no objectivity left to it at all. It has no meaning. This is the reason I've decided that the w a r m will look like this: **** If this sounds a little ridiculous (and I admit I laughed when I decided to do this) try dropping $2,000 bucks from your fast food job on a preamp (volume knob) that some dude in a forum said was "****" just to find out that not one of the people you have recorded even noticed the difference. Madness! It's madness, I tell you! I feel as if I'm being attacked by a s**** of bees! I propose a revolution! Let's expose Drury for the ****onger he truly is! Professor John ****e (of the Colorado School of Mines) will lend his voice, and Professor S J ****a (Utah State University) will soon be up in arms too! Folks living in the D****a sector (created by H Beam Piper) are pacifists, so I don't think we'll get them to join our righteous cause, but I'd bet that T**** (Technical Writers of ARMenia) would like to hear about this!
S**** the Bastille! (or is that "storm"...)

I may be losing it, but I don't hate random words yet. Although, that may be an option come next fall. I'll look into it. I do have a tremendous fixation on spoons these days. I use ONLY plastic spoons for drinking coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, or ice cream. I use metal spoons for cereal and misc hot food items like soup or bread pudding. I go crazy if I have to use the type of spoon for the wrong task. I'm aware of how ridiculous this is. I think its my way of distracting myself from the real problems in my life. I'd much rather be pissed about the type of spoon I have than focus on negative effects of a being an workaholic. Quote:

I'm glad you're still with it. I haven't yet lost my mind to the point of hating individual words, but I have reached the point of insanity that I hate entire phrases. They are mostly expressions that you hear on a daily basis. I think most of them are justifiable and not complete madness. "Hell or high water" is defintely one of those expressions that makes me want to crush a small family of squirrels with a gigantic rock. However, when people say "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less" (the proper use of this commonly used phrase) I only want to put an small, injured pigeon out of its misery. The only times I ever feel like committing baby animal genocide is when someone uses the word "ditto". I don't think any other word in the English dictionary sums up completely unnecessary puke, misery, and uselessness as the word "ditto" does.

(Technical Writers of Armenia, or "T****", is real by the way, though most of their website uses Cyrillic characters and is unintelligle to westerners...)
