I've decided to change "The Band Bar" to Running A Studio

Really, there was no huge difference between The Band Bar and Irrelevant Stuff. I posted a rant today The Endless Barage Of Impersonators and I couldn't really figure out if it belonged in the Band Bar or Irrelevant Stuff. There is definitely an unnecessary overlap.

In this thread, http://forum.recordingreview.com/f37...n-forum-45937/ , these were mentioned:

I feel like I often have ideas to post about stuff that isn't necessarily technical. Like ideas of how to market music, where to get deals on cd printing, how to handle cocky musicians, how to coax the best vocals out of nervious singers, how to get stuff on the radio, good internet sites for EPKs, how important a comfortable break room and an XBOX can be, how do you convince a guitarist that your Mesa Mark IV will probably track better than his Line 6 on the "mesa mark" setting, etc, etc...
I think that is a good idea. Maybe aligned more with the business side of running a home studio. Tip and tricks of what to avoid, things you should do, scheduling etc... plus all of the stuff you listed.
I like the idea of encouraging this "Running A Studio" concept because it's a MAJOR part of the gig. It's probably more important than what compressor or preamp you used on your last lead vocal. Also, talking about how psycho singers are is something I never get bored with.

I found a great book "Running a Home Day Care Center". Just say'n. Oh and, Psycho singers- Yesterday (sunday) the 6'3" singer we had in, demanded that wearing his 2 1/2 foot tall Top Hat in the booth (which has a 8 foot 3 inch ceiling was helping him stay "in character" while singing. If you can, try to immagine this tall fucker singing ----- squatting like he was taking a shit --- with an over sized top hat on---while singing "Mandy" a Barry Manilow song Psycho Singer, or just plain F-ed up. Yes I kept a professional demeanor for the entire 4 hours and never said one smart ass remark under my breath. Allmost, Jojo

While I like the idea of the Running a Studio thread, must say I did like the idea of the Band Bar as a sort of generalist music chat place - more music-specific than the irrelevant chat. It had a few options in the descriptor that felt kinda welcoming, ha! Can't remember what they were, but one was song-writing - which is hard now to place. I liked the lounge room feel of it, the band hanging out chatting kinda thing...
    and I'll miss it.

Maybe the "running a studio" section needs a "studio lounge" sub-category?

I would be making fun of him the entire time. As long as he knows he's crazy there is no problem.

I thought about this a bit. I tend to get a little bit too idealistic, philosophical, whatever. After I came down from that pipe dream I realized that the Band Bar was just a text link to something pretty much identical to the forum as a whole.

The taxonomy of the site (see disaster) doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense anyway as most of us here are just as comfortable talking about microphone selection as we are on how to fire a drummer or print stickers.

The Irrelevant Stuff section may need a different title. Hell, maybe it should be called "The Band Bar". Only in this bar I don't have to worry about Roadhouse breaking out. I can't think of any reason we can't discuss Facebook Marketing, Corn subsidies, Baby Jesus, and the new Pink Floyd remaster.

Screw It: Done. I'm up for new suggestions and critiques on this but I went with my gut on this one.

Maybe the "running a studio" section needs a "studio lounge" sub-category?
Really, this site has about double the categories it needs anyway. That is a problem (and is why most people click on "New Posts"). I'm very hesitant to divide any parts/people up unless it really calls for it. The Cubase section makes sense because Logic users don't want to be around "them people" and vice versa. I don't see that same effect happening with The Band Bar.

    How does that sound?
