Default Tom Petty - Wildflowers

For sonic clarity, articulation, resonance, and fidelity, this is the album I'll point to. It just does it for me.

I listen to this one a lot and will be using it as one of my A/B references in the studio for mixing. Listening from my engineers standpoint, it is an excellent example of studio craftsmanship. Big, epic, grand sounds and you can feel and almost see the instruments being played. That's how transparent it sounds to me. The engineers ( Richard Dodd was one of them ) pulled off the trick of just capturing the sounds to be had and then getting out of the way.

I happen to be a big Petty fan ( we both had the same hometown /shrug ) and the songwriting on this album combined with the production values puts it up near the very top of all of his work and I am a true fan of his first releases.

Some good rockin' tunes on here as well as some more introspective songs. To me, the song order was done correctly and that doesn't hurt the album.

He had Rick Rubin involved in the production and I think it was an excellent decision.

One of my favorite CD's for sure, but then, I am a person who grew up on records. It's not my favorite release of all time, but the SOUND of it is something that I'll be driving towards for a long time.
