I feel like Lamb of God have gone a little down hill with Sacrament. I loved 'New American Gospel' and 'As The Palaces Burn' blew my mind as soon as I heard it. 'Ashes of the Wake' was not as good but still excellent whereas 'Sacrament' just doesn't sound right to me. Almost seems forced. Randall's lyrics sound to teen angtsy this time round. There are some good bits but overall it's a miss for me and it's very rare it gets a spin. |

I wasn't a fan of the raw sound they had prior to Ashes of the Wake. That sound is something I have to be in the mood for whereas I've been able to listen to Ashes of the Wake whenever. As for Sacrament... I haven't listened to it straight through in a couple of months but from what I remember it wasn't that bad. It didn't stray too far from Ashes of the Wake and still managed to hold my attention. But to this day my favorite album has to be Ashes of the Wake. It's all opinion anyway.

the first song is not "clicked". super compressed drums and guitars are buried by 50 vocal trax sometimes but i like the album anyway.

Lamb Of God is an impressive band musically. They have that attitude and bite that a lot of metal bands lack these days. The drummer's top notch. The guitars are very meandering and unorthodox. Plus, their breakdowns are Bruu-tuhL! I respect the hell out of the guys in Lamb Of God. Other than Randy, the rest of the guys have a certain humility where they just let the music speak for itself...although, Randy seems like he is starting to become less of a lunatic. I dig the band a lot. As far as Sacrament goes, it is a bad-ass album, but it falls a little short from "Ashes...," and "As The Palaces Burn." Those albums had some bite!...much more aggressive and unorthodox IMHO too. I also think the production sounded better on "Ashes..." than on Sacrament...less compressed sounding to me (I hope that is the right word for it). I think Sacrament was kind of a transitional album and an incredible effort. Sacrament serves as Randy's therapeutic album. His vocals are much more dynamic though, as he's rediscovered what he can do vocally. Some of the lyrics on Sacrament left a little to be desired however ("...This is your mother f---ing invitation!".......?....!!!!!!!11......what is that!?.....) But, I have a good feeling that the album they're working on now might be way better. It's just a hunch, but it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. I'm sure they'll at least top Sacrament. Welp, that's my two pair.
