this one might be a bit biased, because I absolutely love this EP. And they're from the same city as I am
Hellish Outcast has for a number of years been a steady and hardhitting act here in Bergen, Norway, but it's now recently they've gotten their finger out and summoned forth their first, long awaited EP, brutally entitled "Raping, Killing, Murder". This mean sucker was really one of last years highlights for me, and would've been for any guy/gal out there that like metal presented as the lovechild of Slayer and Cannibal Corpse. Not only on record does these blokes impress, but they're some angry fuckers live as well, too bad non Norwegians haven't been able to see them live yet.
The EP starts off with a bang, with the opening track called "Rapid Eye Movement" , a real kick in the balls to remind you that this aint the time to be bullshitting around. Hardhitting, filled with aggression at the top of the game. Brilliant.
Next song, Called "Death", is not any less brutal in any way, yet contains another wibe to it, where you will get presented some fantastic grooves as well as some guitarwork where you can hear where these guys find their inspiration.
Possesed, the third song of the EP ,starts with a drum intro. nothing really fancy, but sets the mood straight away. A really well performed and written song, but is not my favorite.
the forth song, entitled "Hunt you down" might be my favorite song of the LP. Ripping guitars with lots of groove, where some Black Label Society influences might come to mind?
Fifth song, "Two down, who's next?" Is a bad mother. Try mixing together the best of southern groove metal , Death metal and maybe a hint of deathcore, and you got what I'm listening to as I'm writing this. A great shredding solo is also presented in a very neatly sounding rythmic package.
"Raping, Killing, Murder", last song, and most likely the heavyest one. This one will definitely get your neck moving, if it weren't doing so allready. A really great ender of this fantastic EP.
This EP shows a band who knows what they're doing, and how to handle their instruments. A rare combination theese days I say, so this will most likely not be the last you hear from these guys. They got a very unique sound, so brutal, yet so catchy and rare, and is something completely different from your local death metal outfit. They'll be signed to a mega label before you can say cheese. But what you can say is that you've been listening to theese guys since the demo days!
