Wink Bands I can count on !!!

After replying to the last thread it got me thinking. There are a few bands or artists out there that I always knew I was going to like their new album before it came out. Maybe it's because I just like their style and that swayed me but there is always that same quality or something there. I shouldn't even have to mention the Beatles, that's a given. But I would say for me I always have faith in Peter Gabriel, U2, Radiohead and Pink Floyd (if they were still together so lets say David Gilmour).

Does anyone out there feel the same way about any artists past or present?

I generally agree !! For my tastes though, it's very hard for a band to keep up year after year.

I might be talking about how a band matures, but I look at it as the thumbprint of the record label : ) I lost interest in the Dead after Anthem to the Sun - they turned into a studio band(ho, hum).

For my tastes, I actually prefer the raw sound of the first releases. Yes, I like studio creations, too. But that is not what I really enjoy - what I get a kick out of.

Gabriel is in a class by himself, in my book. But he still has trouble touching that raw nerve as his early vocals used to do. Are my ears jaded? Sure. But I still got that feeling when Franz Ferdinand made it's US release. The Stripes struck me that way, too.

Barenaked Ladies, but I am guessing no longer true with Steven Page out of the band.

It's tough. Sometimes it seems that new bands today won't last (not necessarily connected with level of talent) for very many years. Maybe due to commercialism, business atmosphere nowadays, etc.

Anyway, off my soapbox....

... well, I can't think of any....I tried.

Van Halen is coming out with a new CD in 2010. Pre-2004 I could say I could always trust them to put out a CD that I can get into (okay, let's not go down that road....you know what I'm talking about).

Stones? No! I grew up with them and I firmly believe that music has no age limit, but sometimes out of embarrassment I wish they would retire or go behind the scenes and produce.

The Beatles? I'm loving the Remastered stuff.

New bands?

I'm liking Shinedown's stuff and to me they have been consistent (although I'm getting the feeling they're venturing into "popland" a little). I'm looking forward to new stuff from them.

Jack White. I can get into his stuff because of the variety. I look forward to hearing/seeing what he's doing next, and I'm never disappointed, whether it's the White Stripes, Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, or his recent country stuff. He's also got a nice little studio on 7th Street in Nashville! Didn't get to meet him though; he wasn't in at the time.
