I'm just a schmuck with two sons - a 17 year old bassist and a 15 year old guitarist that love to write and play their own music.
You can see Mason Williams (the 15 year old) work on youtube at:
YouTube - falkrik's Videos
By the way, I think he is really good and so do a lot of others on youtube judging by his ratings (but then again, I'm a bit biased).
Since I'm in no way wealthy enough to buy any significant studio time, I have opted to learn another extremely complicated, technical profession that normally requires years of study and effort to master, just so I can help them record their songs so they can rise meteorically to the same stature as the artists they love so much - Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, John Myung, Geddy Lee, Dream Theater, on and on and on.
Anyway, I have a nice Akai DPS 24 "Studio in a box" that does an excellent job of recording and I've taken it on myself to learn how to use Reaper and other tools to try and produce the level of sound they demand!
Unfortunately, I'm a newbie, so it aint quit there yet.
Time and effort will change that and hopefully, I'll be able to measure up to their high standards before they grow beards and go off to college.
Hope you guys can provide some "constructive" criticism that will help me progress.
I'm going to post a song called "Full Battle Array" that Mason wrote and recorded (he played all the instruments) for some "bashing" right after I leave this post, so please look for it and tell me where I'm going wrong.
Thanks,
Terry
