Hello folks, My name is Jamal and I am a novice who is trying to set his home-based recording studio and having hell of a time doing that. Things work for a moment and then don;t work at all. First off, this is what I have: Computer: Dual Core Win2k3 machine with 3g of RAM. Sound Card: Sounblaster E-MU 0404 Digital Audio System Reording Software: Cubase LE Keyboard: Yamaha PSR-540 External Mixer: Xenyx 1204FX Amplifier: Samson This is how I have set these up (and maybe there is a problem here): My Sound Card has two pairs of analog input and output connectors (left and right). My mixer's output (not the master but the monitor output) is connected to the input of the sound card. Output from the soundcard is coming back to mixer as an analog 1/4'' input. Output from mixer is going into amplifier and two passive speakers are connected to amplifier. Soundcard has midi connections and my keyboard is connected to it. E-MU 0404 came with DSP patchmix software. I have four strips in Patchmix; Wave L/R; ASIO OUT 31/32; PCI Card In L; PCI In R and PCI Card S/PDIF L/F. My esternal mixer is working fine and I can hear the audio through my speakers and if I connect my keyboard directly to it, that works great as well. Problem is with my audio that goes into my computer. I can not record audio in Cubse or in Audacity (I have that one as well and it was working fine before I started using Cubase). One big thing that i notice is that when I go into Cubase Device set and then VST Multitrack, I see E-MU ASIO driver listed there. However, choosing that driver does not work. Only ASIO Multimedia driver works. I can hear the audio when I select that but still cannot record anything. I know you guys might need more information before anyone can help me, but any pointers will be highly appreciated, as I getting very frustrated with it now. Thanks, -jamal |

I apologize for any confusion. My soundcard is EMU 0404, not sound blaster. I will look into your other suggestion and post the results in the evening. Thank you for your reply. -jamal |

Thank you for pointing me into right direction. Problem was with my Mixer. My output on Mixer was connected to Monitor ports instead of Alt 3-4. Other issue was that i had to press the mute button on my mic input so that it would not send the out to main but to Alt 3-4. Once I switched that, it fixed my audio problem. I was able to record the Midi as well, but once I closed the cubase and reopened it, and loaded th eproject that I saved, I was unable to hear the Midi. I have to troubleshoot that now. My other major problem is that now I cannot record anything that is playing on my computer, so if I want to record a song that is playing on my computer from internet, I cannot record it. This is true for both Cubase and Audacity. I can do that on my laptop without a problem. Also, my partner connects via Skype. If I play my recording on my computer, he cannot hear that. He can hear my voice via the mic, but not the music that i play. Any idea on that? I will appreciate any pointers from you. Thanks, -jamal |

Hi Jamal, al this is related to your E-mu mixer use a template ("session") for your DAW its in your program folder.i attached a "session" you can use to record what you hear on the net. bflat Last edited by bflat; 10-25-2008 at 12:29 AM. |

bflat, in my books, you are bSharp - very sharp. thank you again. If you can explain why it worked, that will help me troubleshoot it in future as well. -jamal |

i'm glad that helped.the session works because it routes the "wave" input to a send to your recorder.(you can look at how it routes the signal when you bring up the session) the defaults that come up for session choices will address most uses. i really like these e-mu sound cards, beautiful sound.i record at 96hz/24-bits (or better) i have the 0404 currently and a pc much like yours.(i use Skype, too),so i'm curious to hear your work b |

So now my Audacity is able to record the music, but in Cubase LE I am unable to record. In Device Setup, when I choose E-MU ASIO driver. I can't record anything. But when I choose ASIO Multikedia driver, I am able to record with Monitor switch on, but there is a huge echo that ruins the recording. If I turn off the moitor, then I can't record. From all the postings I read, it appears that I should choose the EMU driver but that is not working for me. Any ideas from anyone? ![]() Thanks, -jamal |

are you switching templates?(ie.the one i sent you "web" vs a cubase session for your Daw)?its not the driver, you've got to change sessions for different apps".Default multitrack "session at your frequecy will work with cubase.the whole point of these "sessions is so you don't have to set it up manually.the asio driver is desirable due to low latency
