New with some questions??

Hi there!! Obviously I'm new and my needs are simple...I would like to accomplish 2 things: 1) Be able to digitally record basic voice tracks for editing and to be able to put musical backgounds in for intro's and exits; 2) I play Bass, 6-string, and 12-string guitars; I would like to use a software tool to develop multi-track productions of my different bass lines and riffs. The voice work is for business but the musical tracks are strictly for my enjoyment...so after all of that here is my question: I looked at reviews of a number of inexpensive production pieces of software and decided Sequel may be the answer. First, am I on the right track? Second, I downloaded the trail version and it works as expected with the exception that I can't record and I'm now hesitant to purchase it in case this is some type of technical glitch...do you know where I can get some help...the Sequel forum has been no help to date? Thanks!
