Default music recording software

hi, im new so plz bare with me

im trying to find a software that allows me to connect my keyboard to my computer and have the notes (not the actual note as it would be in a sheet, but notes as in how long n hard i press the note on my keyboard) show up. then i could change the track and add more music, or add a drum loop. i use to play around with a similar program in high school music composing class but i cant remember the name...can sumone help...i really would like this software.

If you have a midi keyboard then what you're looking for is called a "midi sequencer" program. You will need either a midi interface (cable, etc.) for your computer to connect to your keyboard or you will need a keyboard that can transmit midi over USB (in which case you just need a USB cable to connect the keyboard and computer).

Once you have midi traveling between the two devices you need the software sequencer running on your computer. There are many available. Some free some very expensive. Do a google search on "free midi sequencer" and you should find some.

No, that's just my sig file listing some of the recording gear that I use. There's a good list of midi sequencing programs here: Midi Sequencing & Accompaniment Software - Synth Zone

Off the top of my head I would say check out Reaper. It's getting really good reviews and has a free demo version available at REAPER | About. I haven't used it personally, but I hear good things about it.
