Midi & cubase sx3

Hi there, some quick questions please and any help is welcome!!

*I have a midi keyboard (ukey-midi) that has a usb port straight to my laptop, can i use this in cubase sx3 ?

*i recently opened my cubase sx3 and just browsing as i dont have a clue how to use it yet, and on the pull down menus some of the options are grey & not active, where as some others are black?

Is this because you can not use certain features at the begining?

Yes. It should show up as an input device.

Is this because you can not use certain features at the begining?

Probably. Some features are context sensitive.
