Default its been a looong time

hi everyone!
I like to make my own music. That includes composing and recording. I'm getting back into it after being inactive since my teens. My ideology hasn't really changed since then although the environment has changed drastically.
Back then I pretty much figured out how to do things on my own. Now there are communities to discuss pretty much anything with.

Thanks for reading my intro

Cool, glad to meet you. What instruments will you be recording and with what gear?

Welcome aboard! BTW, I like you avatar! What is that? It's not a TRS-80, but close to that vintage.

I have to start from scratch because all my original equipment - guitars, amps my 4 track etc... are back in my home country. I recently got some Roland V-Drums and a couple of cheap Chinese guitars, this mic (a total gamble). I'm going to try recording on the computer for the first time with either Ardour or Audacity (for Linux).
I know My setup is pretty lame, but I want to get busy straight away, find my ground and with a little research, find better equipment and build upon the cheap ass setup I have to work with.

Its the computer from the TV series Lost. I think I read somewhere it was a modified Apple II.

I think the first thing on my shopping list will be ART Tube MP Studio Microphone Preamp from zZounds.com!
I think I'll cancel the order for the USB mic

Also look around the forum for the tube replacements for the ART. It significantly improves performance over the Chinese made tubes that come with it.
