Hi Folkses
This looks like such a great forum. I too have gotten a bit fed up with other forums being rather clique-ish and knocking the newbies around, overwhelming them/us with bewildering answers, bad advice, and endless drivel about gear.
Speaking of endless drivel...I'm an old-school analog recording engineer, studio tech, musician, voiceover artist, and general diode-head (jack of all trades/master of none). I used to design and build my own microphones, preamps, compressors, etc., but am totally hooked on all the great new digital stuff that's now available. (No more ground loops or tape machine alignments!) Though I'm presently designing a small PA system for musicians, I'm mostly a hobby recordist now, and have been using Tracktion and Audacity software on a Sony laptop, Tascam interface, MXL mic, etc. (Getting fed up with Microsoft after all these years and may soon defect to Mac.) I just escaped a stable [boring] career as a manufacturing engineer for an electronics company on California's central coast to take my chances in film school (audio) here in LA learning all about Pro Tools and editing music, sound effects, Foley, ADR, etc, all in an effort to learn to do just one thing really well. Having a blast so far!
I hope to give much more to this forum than I get back. Thank you, Brandon, and everyone else for making it happen!

Welcome to the club!

Awesome! If I could freeze time, this is exactly what I would do, I think.

Wow! That's a hell of a jump. There is something noble about being bored, but I too have went the scarier route. Oh well, I can't remember the last time I was bored.

No problem, dude! I'm just trying to do my part and maybe help people along the way.
