Question Hi all, just a couple of questions

I'm new to computer recording so I have a few questions to ask.
1) Has anyone had any experience with combined audio interface keyboards like the m-audio KeyStudio 49i or would I be better of getting a separate keyboard and sound card ?
2) Any advice on getting started with sonar 6 ? Just had a look at it Where do I start

Thanks in anticipation,

Fozz.

This is news to me. I didn't even know they made a combined audio interface / midi controller.

Getting an audio interface is a very "personal" thing in that everyone has very specific needs. I have my doubts that the built in audio interface will work well for everyone.

I generally like to stay modular. All-in-one solutions are great until one component doesn't work anymore or you want to upgrade. Then you have a none-in-one solution.

I'd go separate if it was me.

Then again, if the audio interface meets your needs $250 here isn't a bad price for the combo.

Cubase has an awesome 100 page getting started PDF that comes with the software in addition to a 1,000 page manual. I'd be suprised if Sonar doesn't have something similar.

Thanks Brandon, keeping things seperate seems like good advice to me
Just need to decide which controller and audio interface best suits my needs.
I wasn't sure if anyone could recomend a tutorial dvd or video lessons on the web, as trawling through manuals can be a bit of a slog.

Cheers,

Fozz.

Check out my home recording soundcard wizard. This will get you started.

There are articles and videos that teach the concepts of gear, but you really need to read specific manuals for the gear you purchase. It will SAVE time with this stuff. Some things just aren't meant to be figured out by tinkering (fighter jets, recording software, etc).
