Default Hey i'm new here-- this place rocks!

Hey everyone-
I'm Isaac,
I have just recently started to try and teach myself how to record after my band decided that we wanted to do a demo. I have a pretty good ear for how music fits together so they decided to make me do it
I knew virtually nothing about recording-- I've been a musician (mainly guitar and drums) for a little over 8 years and had yet to venture into that realm. I've started to kind of get a hang of the basics but only after much trial and error, plus I go to college so I have very little time on my hands. Thought about going to recording school for a while but not sure.
Anyway I inherited a bit of equipment from a friend who doesn't use it anymore and have bought a few things myself. I was wondering what my next step should be-- whether it be the next thing to buy or next thing to learn. Here's a list of what i've got.

-A Macbook laptop
-Presonus Firestudio project
-Cubase LE4
-2 Fostex PMO.5 monitors
-CAD 7-piece Drum mic kit
-1 Shure SM57
-2 MXL 990 condenser mics
-2 MXL 991 condenser mics
-2 Behringer Xenyx1202fx mixers
-couple dozen 1/4 in guitar/speaker cables and mic cables
-serious dedication

i'd really appreciate any advice. thanks
-isaac

Spending a year in recording school is kind of like spending a year in Amsterdam. You may learn something and have some fun, but don't expect to get a job based solely on that.

Your gear is adequate to get busy.

From time to time people will ask "What should I buy?". If it isn't blatantly obvious what to buy, buy nothing. I have a list of problems (it's about 10,000 items long) in my head. I try to knock out the top one when I get the cash.

If you can't think of anything that needs improving, you should immediately call up a band and start recording. You'll have 10,000 items on your list in a few hours.

If you aren't totally lost, you haven't been recording!
