Hello from Mendocino

I am just beginning to experiment with home recording onto my PC,since I've been told that the days of using my reel-to-reel to record are over. (It's a nice little Panasonic that was a top of the line reel to reel when I got it in about 1979, if anyone's interested)

I am starting out with a simple little system. A pair of MXL 900/991 condenser mikes into a little pre-amp (an M-Audio "AudioBuddy") and then into an M-Audio 2496 Soundcard. I am just using the simple Audacity freeware.

I record mainly solo vocal/guitar stuff.

So far I have to say the quality far outshines the stuff I was able to get years ago when I did play around with my reel to reel (and a couple of cheap mikes that came with it). But I know I don't know a thing about recording, and hope to learn a lot on this forum.
