Cool HEllo everyone, HELP!!!

I'm some what of a guitar player and want to record some originals that my friend and I been working on, so i was able to get a pretty good mixer (Alesis Multimix 16 firewire). I plugged it into my laptop and Opened it with Audacity(anyone familiar with that program?Cause i dont know how to use it!!lol, a friend recommended it). Any ways i press record and all i get is static!! Can anyone please shed some light?

Thanx.....

With that alesis Mixer, I would definately switch over to some REAL recording software. I love audacity, but it has its limitations.

But working with Audacity (assuming you use Windows), 1) make sure you installed the mixer as a sound card (check Control Panel=>Sounds and Audio Devices=>Audio tab and make sure that the mixer is the recording device.) 2) Open Audacity and in the window, there is a drop-down menu that has a list of inputs (see attached picture). Make sure that it points to your mixer.

With that said, I don't know if Audacity can record multiple channels.

I've never used Audacity, but I imagine, since it is free, multiple channel recording isn't available. I also would guess that you need to record enable your channels (or maybe a master record enable button) for the program to register.

A thank man. I followed the steps and everything was going good but when i open Audacity, the drop-down menu is blanked and unable to scroll to different options. So, i went to file and opened Alesis and i get some weird sounding static. What should i do next? Erase everything and reinstalled the Alesis (follow the hand book, which i did from the beginning) and Audacity?

Thank once again
