Default Hello from a complete beginner

Hi everyone. I am Brian and a complete beginner. I have a Tascam US-144 with a laptop with Vista. So far I have been unable to get any sound into the computer. I am VERY frustrated!!

A few basics first. I'm guessing the US-144 came with Cubase LE or LE4. If so, were you able to install it on your laptop successfully? If not, what software are you using? Have you read the documentatlon that came with the Tascam (US-144 and Cubase/other software)? Its surprising how many of us skip that step! And finally, how have you tried to record, and what happened (or didn't).

Poor guy, another victim of the Trashcan US-144

Welcome to the forum

Go to the Tascam website
download the latest driver for the US-144 for Windows Vista

Run the installer
When/if prompted plug in the USB cable and US-144, if not then don't yet.

When install is finished turn off the computer
Plug in the interface, turn it on (if there is a power button)
Turn on the computer

When Windows starts if the 'found new hardware' box comes up and asks for a driver, just click Automatically find, OK/Next until it finishes

In Windows go to your control panel and the sounds & audio devices options
Choose the Tascam as the Audio device, not Internal (soundmax/realtek whatever is built into the computer)
