Default Hello Brandon and All...Home Recorder Since 2001

Hello everyone.

I received a nice introduction email from Brandon, so I thought I'd reply here. I'm sure it's sent to everyone, but it was so well though out that it got a responce out of me.

I actually started recording at home also in 2001 when I started college. Like you, I've come a loooooong way, but I still have some way to go. I'm basically at the "really awesome demo/poor CD" stage of my ability, trying to get to at least "good CD", if not "awesome CD".

Looking forward to learning from your site, and teaching whatever I can on the forums.

I'll post an example of my work when I get home (I'm on a bus right now). In fact, if you go to bloodbathandbeyond.net, two of my tracks are there on the first page (recorded before I got my MXL condenser mic, and learned what compression is!)

Default Re: Hello Brandon and All...Home Recorder Since 2001

I'm still just experimenting with it, but before i learned about compression i used to use the Hard Limiter to increase the gain on my final mixes up to -0.1 db, but sometimes it would make the mix sound wishy-washy (hard to explain).

Compression seems to be doing roughly what the hard limiter was doing, but without the wishy-washiness. I've been putting it on the snare drum, kick drum, and guitars. I'm still playing around with it on vocals and bass. I have no recordings to share using compression though...sorry about that.

EDIT: Huh? where'd the post i was replying to go?
