Hey guys,
Just joined the site and I'm looking forward to diving in head first. Seems like there is a lot of good info. on here. Althought I have dabbled in the past, I just started doing some serious recording back in December. So far I've got about 7 songs (Demos) finished and under my belt. It took a lot of trial and error, but I can happily say that I think each mix has been better than the last. Which I guess is all you can ask for as you are learning the proper way to do things. Here are some of the pieces of hardware/software that I am currently using: Yamaha AW16G DAW - Used to record drums Reaper - Used for recording all other parts, mixing and mastering. Line 6 POD X3 Live - Used for all guitar and bass parts and as an interface and pre-amp for Vocals Addictive Drums - As I could never seem to get the sound of the Kick and Snare drums right, I have recently figured out how to replace those 2 drum tracks with midi triggers that push the kit of my liking in this piece of software. Used as a VSTi plug-in inside Reaper. I guess that's all for now. Looking forward to reviewing some of the tunes on here and having my own critiqued to death!!! lol Later, Andrew |

Well for one, there was way too much bleed over from the other drums and cymbals, which can be easily sovled through gates. But other than that, we just couldnt get the right sound out of them, probalby due to the drums themselves. I've heard of people micing the snare ont he top and bottom which I would like to try but we don't have enough mics.

I didn't realized that Addictive Drums had the bleed thing happening like DFH Superior does. I know that the Addictive Drums kick drum is very big and boomy which won't work for any styles that require lots of attack or speed.
From what I've heard from Addictive Drums, they've always sounded great. I guess we all have different tastes. Quote:
How are you using Addictive Drums? Most people using samples don't talk about micing too. Brandon

No, addictive drums isnt the problem. It was the poor sound of the mic'd kick and snare that we were having problems with, which prompted me to use addictive. Osing Reaper, I put a midi trigger on both of those tracks and route them to to a recieve track that is runnign the AD plugin. |

Oh, okay. Now I get it. I guess I'm a little slow sometimes. Sample replacement is a big thing these days. While I've generally been against it, I'm opening up a bit.
